I came across Mastered a few weeks ago. I had seen tweets around mentioning them but hadn’t really paid much attention to them. However, when I saw a tweet from their creative director Perri Lewis looking for embroidery enthusiasts who liked crisps and could get to London on Wednesday night I signed myself up.
The night it self was a focus group around their website, but it gave me a great insight into what they do and more importantly what I could be doing!
Their aim is to take your creative career to the next level, turn it from a hobby to a business, from embroidery to couture embroidery.. and they have some great tutors on board.
This is beginning to sound a bit like a sales pitch ☺
But you can check out their courses for free on line – you get an hour’s free access (which you can split over several sessions if needed..)
They also run some free Webinars – Mastered Meets– which I have signed up for. The first was Social Media with Mr X Stitch – which inspired my new Linky Friday series – blog at regular time and your audience knows when to expect you.. Even if it’s only once a month.
The second was by Karen Nicol, one of Mastered’s tutors. She talked about how to get commissions for fashion embroidery and the importance of a good portfolio. I loved her attitude, ‘be brave’ and ‘just do it’. The stuff my husband tells me all time!
She also suggested that you sit and scribble 30 or 40 ideas – kind of a brain dump. Then work up the best of these, maybe into a series rather than cramming too much into one piece.
Tomorrow night’s webinar is by Diana Springall and while I can’t tune in to it live, I can’t wait to listen to the podcast! Hers is the course I’m most interested in doing.
I love comments so don’t be shy, let me know what you think…
