Oh sew sweet discovery: a new fabric shop!

image

We had a lovely Christmas at home this year and travelled up to Yorkshire for the new year to see family. My mum is as crazy about craft as I am and had heard of a new quilting shop at the other side of Barnsley, Oh sew sweet shop. We can’t resist a fabric shop and will often take a detour to go find one!

It combines quilting fabric with a  traditional sweet shop and as we each bought fabric a handful of sweets was added to our bags. – I imagine that it would work as great bribery if we lived a bit closer, my son might not find fabric shopping quite so boring if there were sweets involves!

Were meet one of the owners, Jeff, who was very helpful – if a little bemused of me taking photos of him! – he gave us space to have a browse before having a chat with us as he cut our fabric. They opened in October and are still building up stock, he did say they’d be happy to order things in if needed and that they’re planning to increase the amount of stuff they have online.

I bought a lovely Owl panel to make into a baby playmat, and some safari fabric – I have an idea brewing for this and some other animal fabric I have in my stash.

The set up of the shop was lovely and their class list looked great – including Katy Jones from I’m a ginger monkey and Janet Bottemley who teaches my mum’s quilting class. They also have a regular day where people can bring along their own work.

We will both definitely be going back when I’m next visiting!

What is your favourite fabric shop??

I love comments so don’t be shy, let me know what you think…

  2. I too love this shop, I’m local in the village and discovered Lorrayne and Geoff at Christmas. Been to one workshop and now hooked – got another to look forward to in March. Also starting to look at fabric everywhere I go. Great to read your review 🙂
